What is the etymology of Slabtown?

There is a full description of the etymology on this site. The brief version: the poor quality edges of the logs with the bark attached were sold by the lumber yards along the river to the neighboring homes as a fuel source. The wood was stacked in front of homes to cure; the stacks of this slab wood were so high that the slab wood at certain times of year was the most dominant and distinctive manmade “structure” in the neighborhood. Mike Ryerson and Tim Hills started the festival in part to restore the historic name to community and to give elders and new residents a sense of place by celebrating the history of the neighborhood.
